Eirianedd Munro is a Welsh, Nigerian artist who specialises in surreal, figurative oil paintings. Through the image of the physical body, her work aims to inspire new and progressive conversations about taboo subjects such as mental health, nudity and identity. Her work is a commentary on print and social media and their ever-increasing impact on the those who consume it. As magazine covers and Instagram posts are edited and distorted, Eirianedd cuts and crops, destroys and creates, disfigures and unifies. By deconstructing and reconstructing the human body, she reimagines functional flesh as a pure aesthetic experience. Eirianedd is best known for her ‘The Rorschach Test’ paintings, a series which provokes her audience to realise their own relationship between the mind and the body.
“There is often a disconnect between who we are physically and who we are mentally and the quest to unify the two, at times, seems never ending. These paintings simultaneously capture and encourage a reconciliation of the human body and mind.”
